If you follow any breweries on Twitter, you’re probably seeing lots of tweets from the Craft Brewers Conference in Denver. Folks from NC breweries are proudly tweeting a slide that shows NC as having the fifth-most breweries to open in 2013 with 21. This number also means that the state had the highest percentage growth in the nation. The ranking went California with 65 new breweries, Washington with 43, Oregon with 25, Colorado with 24 and North Carolina with 21.

Twenty-one new breweries is no doubt impressive, but I went back through the book to see who the new players were and ensure that number is accurate. By my count, 30 breweries actually opened in NC last year.
